I was fascinated by photography as long as I can remember. I started more than 30 years ago with an old Voigtländer 6x6 folding camera, which I got from my father and I still remember how proud I was, when I bought my first own miniature camera - a Ricoh - from my own pocket money at the age of 11. During my school days I became familiar with darkroom work and nowadays computer and scanner not only replaced the darkroom, but created new possibilities of making images as well. Most of my recent work is done with manual and analog photo equipment, even though I use a digital camera on several occasions. For two years now I’m back where I started. Not only, but more and more I use quite unsophisticated photo equipment. Old medium format folding cameras, plastic toy cameras or old Polaroid cameras. I like to work with them and most of all I like the limits they have. In their limitation every camera is unique and they just give you a certain way to create images with them. And the results are always different and sometimes not predictable, like those cameras would live. I think in images and photography is a way to express myself and to give you the opportunity to look at the world how I see it. |
